THE EDEN PROJECT

While exploring the theme of survival at the Eden Project, the structure and function of plants (leaves in particular) caught my attention.

I focused on photographing plants of interest based on size, texture and shape, considering their potential mechanisms of survival – for example the ‘Umbrella tree’ which takes advantage of high levels of moisture in the air through their aerial roots, or plants that grow towards sunlight. I also considered ways plants offered survival methods for other species: edible fruits and vegetables for essential human consumption, large leaves that provide habitats for insects.

This led to my interest in the appearance and structure of leaves, which dictated some of the work I produced.
